Want to be a member of the Hawkapellas?
This is the place to be! The Iowa Hawkapellas add to their ranks each year as veterans graduate, and new chicks spread their wings. The number of 'chicks' -as we like to call new members- varies each year, depending on multiple factors. You're welcome to audition as many times as you like, and we encourage you to do so!

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for the Hawkapellas this fall! This year saw the largest number of auditionees in Hawkapellas history, so of course we encountered an amazing amount of talent, and are so honored to have so many of you interested in joining our group. We know how incredibly exciting, intimidating, and nerve-wracking the audition process can be. We truly appreciate your courage and willingness to sing for us, and wish you all the best luck this school year!
Audition FAQ and Tips

What should I prepare?
A 60 second cut of a song that showcases your best personal sound- Pick a song that you like and feel confident singing!

When are auditions?
We only hold auditions once per academic year in the fall semester, so don't miss out! Audition dates for the 2025-2026 season have not yet been announced.

Do i need to be at auditions for the whole two hours?
You can arrive any time in our two hour audition window, but we recommend you arrive sooner rather than later! Once you audition, you're free to leave!

Do I have to re-audition to stay in the group?
Once you're a Hawkapella, even if you take a year abroad, you're always welcome back! So don't let your study abroad program keep you from auditioning

What if I have class during the audition times?
We want to hear you! Write us an email as soon as possible and give us other times you're available, and we'll work something out to make sure you can audition

How many hours do the Hawkapellas rehearse a week?
We hold two rehearsals per week, two hours each. Expect a time commitment of at least 4 hours/week. During competition season, we may hold Sunday rehearsals.
We're on your side! We want you to succeed and want to get to know your voice, it's all right to be a little nervous.
Remember, everyone currently in the group had to audition too!
