Want to be a member of the Hawkapellas?
This is the place to be! The Iowa Hawkapellas add to their ranks each year as veterans graduate, and new chicks spread their wings. The number of 'chicks' -as we like to call new members- varies each year, depending on the number of graduating members. The number of available spots, however, doesn't determine your skill. If you audition on a year with few openings, we simply may not be taking certain voice parts. You're welcome to audition as many times as you like, and we encourage you to do so!

What should I prepare?
A 60 second cut of a song that showcases your best personal sound! Pick a song that you like and feel confident singing!

When are auditions?
Auditions take place within the first few weeks of the fall semester each year, usually in the first two weeks of September. We only hold auditions once per year, so don't miss out!

How long does the audition process take?
From the first audition day to when results arrive in your outlook inbox should be no longer than two weeks!

Do I have to re-audition to stay in the group?
Once you're a Hawkapella, even if you take a year abroad, you're always welcome back! So don't let your study abroad program keep you from auditioning!

What if I have class during the audition times?
We want to hear you! Write us an email as soon as possible and give us other times you're available, and we'll work something out to make sure you can audition!

How many open spots do you have?
Anywhere between 1-10 new members are added each year, depending on the graduating number from the spring prior and other factors.
We're on your side! We want you to succeed and want to get to know your voice, it's all right to be a little nervous.
Remember, everyone currently in the group had to audition too!
